Comments: Linda, I found your name while looking for information about my gggrandmother, Rebecca Ann Javins. It is my understanding that she was born in or near Alexandria, VA, April 7, 1829. Her father's name was William and her brother's name was William Armistead Javins. She was related to the Walker family also of Alexandria. She met my gggrandfather Frank Tishel (Francis Taishle) while she was visiting her Walker relatives in Kentucky. After she and my grandfather married they owned a tannery in Tennessee. They lived there until she died August 24, 1896. Something that you said in your website caught my attention. You said that the Javins produced mostly girls. My gggrandparents had three girls and one boy. The boy had only girls so the Tishel name stopped after the second generation in this country. If you have any information, that might give me a lead I would be most grateful.

Comments: My Great-great-grandmother Mary was the beginnings of the Javins & Kinder clans in West Virginia. (It was Virginia when she was alive). When the indians killed her husband John Kinder in 1790 in a raid on the Fort at the mouth of Coal River, she hid with her children & later went to the Fort that is now Marmet, WV. She married Daniel Javins in 1794. She had twins from John Kinder, a boy John, & a girl Margaret. She had 5 Javins children before she died in about 1818. Daniel Sr died a few months before Mary. Daniel Jr was the youngest & went to live with his half-brother John Kinder. His Older brother Samuel had already left to work on the river boats. The other three were girls.

Comments: as you can see, my name is spelt a little differently. The name Javin/Javins/Javens is also found in my family history. Some of my ancestors moved from the UK to Canada and the USA in the late 1800's and I have found positive links to some of the Javens's in Canada and the USA...we are now just starting to swap some information in hope that it may lead us further into history.
I have also found (thru our history) that when children were baptised or registered at birth, there was a great variation in name spelling. I would guess that (in those times) the parent verbally told the record keeper the childs name and this was recorded by the record keeper as he "heard it" hence the spelling variations.
Could this be the case with your name?
By the way, I am in Australia and have only, over the past few months, been researching...so far I have found out more than I ever thought I would.
I wish you luck in your search.
Kind regards,
Phil

I've just begun to search my family ancestry. My maiden name is Javins, in all my years I have never run into anyone else with this surname outside of my family.
Although I have been a resident of Tampa, FL for the past 12 years, I am a native of Virginia (Alexandria & Fairfax County). Just curious if you may have any information on the Javins family of Va. My grandparents are as far back as I have information on and that is not complete. My grandfather was Frank Javins dob approximately 1877/78 married to Annie Irene Hall dob 10/3/1893 died 5/12/1969.
My grandmother had one child Everett Hall prior to her marriage to Frank. She and Frank had 6 children, Melvia, Ethel, Irene, Dorothea, Lottie and my father Ronald in that order. I know very little about Frank since he died long before my birth (don't have the date of death), I recall one relative (although I don't remember if he was a brother or cousin) named Lawrence. I recall that Lawrence owned some land in the area now known as Franconia just south of Olde Towne Alexandria, in which there remains a street named after the family (Javins Road which intersects with Dubois). Any info you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: Hi,
Well, one of my great great Aunts married a JOHN JAVINS on 9 July 1867. Her name was ANNIE RISTON born 3 July 1851. After marrying Javins, she either divorced or he died. She married JOSEPH E.CHAPMAN on 22 Sept 1870 but I don't know where for either man! My guess is Alexandria, VA. I just learned that she had married into the LAMPHER family as she is buried in Sharon Chapel All Saints Episcopal Church Cemetery on Franconia Rd., Franconia, VA. Her headstone has that she died on 4 Aprl 1893 at age 41.
There is a ton of RISTON information at my website. Some of the information is wrong and I'm attempting to change it.
I don't know which LAMPHER Annie married and I know nothing of any children she may have had with either JAVINS or CHAPMAN. Annie had a sister AURELIA b. 29 Oct 1848. She married a CHARLES LEAKE (son of Nathan and Ann L. LEAKE and a Corp. in the 1st DC Volunteers) on 11 Aug 1863 and she married a DALLAS BIGGS on 10 Sept. 1867.
Annie also had another sister Winifred and my great grandmother VIRGINIA who married a PETER LYNCH. She also had a brother DENNIS W., JAMES DUNCAN, and CHARLES. Two other sisters had died in infancy or as a toddler.
So, that's what I have and I would really appreciate ANY information that any one else may have. Hope you enjoy my site as I have yours. Take care.
Sue
